European Adders, Vipera berus

In light of finally getting the 'UK Herping' page finished on the expedetions page (here), I thought I'd post this - six good reasons why, despite having only a handful of native reptiles and amphibians in the UK, British herpers aren't completely out of luck!

The European adder, Vipera berus, is the UK's only species of venomous snake. They vary greatly in colour, depending on sex, age, yearly season and individual population. All of the animals pictured were photographed at our sites in Cheltenham and the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, and at Cannock Chase in Staffordshire.

Hopefully, it won't be too long until they begin to emerge from their winter hibernacula - we just need all this rain to stop for longer than 5 minutes!
